TRI-M Music Honor Society
Overview: The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for middle/junior high and high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership. Through more than 5,500 chartered chapters, Tri-M has helped thousands of young people provide years of service through music in schools throughout the world.
Purpose: The purpose of the Music Honor Society is to inspire music participation, create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, and promote leadership in the music students of secondary schools. The three M initials stand for Modern Music Masters. The Tri-M is under the sponsorship and supervision of MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
Membership: For the March, 2015 induction, sophomore and junior students will be eligible for membership. More information will follow in January.

It is important to note that membership in TRI-M is a privilege, not a right!

Membership Criteria:
- Music Participation: Candidates must have been enrolled in a school-sponsored music ensemble for at least one semester each academic year. After induction, members must continue to be enrolled in a least one semester of an approved music ensemble (if, after induction, every reasonable attempt has been made to schedule a music ensemble to no avail, this requirement may be waived). The approved ensembles are as follows:
- Chorus
- Chamber Choir
- Concert Band
- Jazz Band
- Grades/Scholarship: Candidates must have an 85 or above average in the approved music ensembles and an overall un-weighted GPA of 2.8 during each of the previous academic years. Members must continue to meet the eligibility requirements after induction.
- Leadership: Candidates should display leadership ability both in and out of school and provide examples of their leadership experiences.
- Service: Candidates should have experience in service activities that are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation. A minimum of 10 service hours must be documented for acceptance into TRI-M.
- Character: Candidates should demonstrate respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, and a caring attitude for others.
It is important to note that membership in TRI-M is a privilege, not a right!
